Playing Music

I learned how to play the piano when I was 7,12,and 18 years old.

Except the 18 years piano lessons, playing the piano was “Don’t make mistakes”
I was focusing on to touch right key. After I feel I was confident, then moved on to think dynamics and mood. But most time that moments I already got tired of practice that song.
So “articulation first, and dynamics” were my instructions to practice.

And many kids and beginner (some of intermediate) player forgot and missed dynamics. And say “I forgot again. But there were no mistakes.”
Yes, it’s not mistake. Because nothing was right. They didn’t play music. They just operate complicate machines as manual. They can read loud perfectly but they don’t understand what is the meaning of the book.
There is no right answers to express their feelings, messages, and pictures in mind. But I didn’t know.

But when I met a new instructor in my age 18, she asked me follow note and she played for me the music. It was perfectly matched with the sheet music.
Then she asked me to close my eyes. After finished her playing, she asked me to point what she made mistakes. But I couldn’t give answer, I didn’t want to give answer. Because I really want to say the playing was so beautiful. Why I care, when my heart wants to beat with the music.
Then she told me that if you want to play music to move people’s hearts, you should understand what you play. If thinking about dynamics are disturbing your playing, stop practicing and listen to the music.

But I was so worried about audition for assessment of university. So what her saying was fantasy for me.

Now I agree with her way to make music.

Also, I respect my first piano instructors way. It’s very efficient way to get master how to read and get right notes. Moreover, satisfied parents’ desire.
